STEM Beyond School

STEM Beyond School is a professional engagement program for secondary school Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) teachers and educators across Australia to visit current research and innovation spaces.

Facilitated by the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE) and with the support of ATSE's education program STELR, STEM Beyond School links teachers with professionals from a range of fields within STEM industries, giving educators the most up-to-date understanding of industry trends, opportunities, and needs for future employees.

Through STEM Beyond School,  educators will learn what knowledge, skills, and experience their students need in a modern classroom, giving educators the best possible ability to support their students’ future careers in STEM.

All events are free to attend. More information about each event is displayed on the following page.

BABS is home to a dynamic community of researchers and educators and state-of-the-art technologies to facilitate scientific investigation and teaching. Research topics at the School of BABS are diverse, but include cellular cholesterol production and transport, diabetes and obesity, cancer, genetic diseases, brain health and ageing, genetic evolution of viruses and marsupials, viral, bacterial and fungal pathogens. The school’s research is divided into three clusters: Genomics and Bioinformatics, Microbiology and Microbiomes, and Molecular and Cell Biology. Thus, the School of BABS fosters an interdisciplinary approach to understanding and teaching the mechanisms of life at the molecular level.
During the tour, you will visit the facilities and participate in a small lab demonstration.

Tour the ANU School of Cybernetics

Visit the ANU School of Cybernetics, the first new school at the ANU in over 40 years. Here we delight in unpacking complex systems to understand how technology, people and environment intersect and interact.

You will wander through Level 3 of the Birch Building, hear about some of the diverse and creative projects underway at the school and play with PANIC, an interactive installation powered by generative AI.

About the School of Cybernetics

Cybernetics is the study of effective action in complex, dynamic systems (think climate change, new technologies like AI and social unrest). At the ANU School of Cybernetics we are building capability to help people solve the challenging issues of our time. Our people and programs blend education, research and engagement to support students, collaborators and the public to tackle the challenges posed by technology at scale
