The Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering (ATSE) and the Industry Mentoring Networking in STEM (IMNIS) invites you to join us for Engaging with Industry New South Wales.
This event focuses on how, when and why researchers engage with industry, the importance of understanding commercialisation, milestones, timelines and budgets, developing strong professional connections beyond academia, as well as how developing an entrepreneurial mindset can facilitate resilience and success in any setting.
Keynote speaker Distinguished Professor Fang Chen will provide insights into her time as the Executive Director Data Science at the University of Technology Sydney.
Following the Keynote presentation, a panel facilitated by Scott Cummins GAICD, and including special guest panellists, Victor Loh, Andrea Sosa Pintos and Colin Denver will share their experiences engaging with industry across all facets of the industry pipeline.

KEYNOTE
Distinguished Professor Fang Chen
Executive Director Data Science - University of Technology Sydney
Distinguished Professor Fang Chen is a prominent leader in AI/data science with an international reputation and industrial recognition. She has created and deployed many innovative solutions using AI/data science to transform industries worldwide. She won “Oscar Prize” in Australian science – Australian Museum Eureka Prize 2018 for Excellence in Data Science. She is the Winner of Women in AI Australia and New Zealand Award in AI in Infrastructure category 2021. She has been appointed to the inaugural NSW Government AI Advisory Committee, and serves as the Co-Chair, The National Transport Data Community of Practice (NTD-CoP) at ITS Australia. Through impactful successes, she led the team and gained many recognitions such as the ITS Australia National Award 2014, 2015 and 2018, and NSW iAwards 2017, VIC iAwards 2019 and 2020. She is the NSW “Water Professional of the Year” 2016, winning National and NSW “Research and Innovation Award” by Australian Water association 2018. Professor Chen has more than 300 publications and 30 patents in 8 countries, and delivered many public speeches including TEDx. She is the Executive Director Data Science at University of Technology Sydney (UTS).

Scott is based at ATSE in Canberra and was previously the Board & Governance Partner with the Australian Institute of Company Directors, where he worked to enhance the performance of boards & organisations through tailored in-house education & governance evaluations.
Scott’s career has covered the public & private sectors, not-for-profits & charities, and he previously worked within the Australian Renewable Energy Agency’s, Emerging Renewables Program.
Scott holds a Bachelor of Security Analysis and is a graduate of the AICD. He is also currently completing a Graduate Diploma in Data and Cyber Management.
